Cultural Oil Matrix

Mint & Eucalyptus
Mint was used in Greek baths and banquets, often rubbed into tables to scent the air—its name even comes from the nymph Minthe of Greek mythology. Eucalyptus, though modern, mimics the cool, camphorous herbs used in ancient Greek purification practices.

Lemon Verbena
Though not native to Ancient Greece, Lemon Verbena captures the same bright clarity once carried by sacred bay laurel—an herb burned in temples and worn by champions.

Cypress Leaf
Cypress trees were symbols of mourning and the underworld, frequently planted near temples and sanctuaries. Their presence in Greek rituals reflected both remembrance and divine passage.

Heather & Thyme
Thyme was highly valued in Ancient Greece—it symbolized courage, purity, and was used in temples and baths. Heather, while not directly documented in Greek sources, shares aromatic, Mediterranean terrain qualities and pairs naturally with thyme, mimicking the wild herbal air of the region.

Oracle Smoke Accord
A poetic tribute to the Pythia at Delphi, this imagined blend mimics the sacred fumes believed to deliver visions. Symbolizes mystery, altered states, and divine communication.

Basil
Named after the Greek word “basileus” meaning “king,” basil carried sacred and royal symbolism. Though not widely used in early Greece, it became linked to spiritual protection and reverence.

Fig Leaf
Figs were sacred in Ancient Greece, tied to fertility, prosperity, and philosophical reflection. Fig trees often shaded sacred groves and courtyards of philosophers.

Sacred Rock Rose
Known for its resinous intensity, rock rose was used in ancient incense blends. It symbolized strength, sacred rites, and divine fragrance in Hellenic temples.

Temple Olive
Olive trees were considered holy, planted in honor of Athena. Their oil was used in offerings, athletics, and sacred anointing throughout Greece.

Sage
Used in ancient Greek purification rituals, sage was burned to cleanse temples and sacred spaces. It symbolized clarity, balance, and the pursuit of wisdom.

Burned Laurel Bark
A poetic echo of bay laurel’s power, this interpretation emphasizes smoke and shadow. It evokes the weight of victory and the burden of prophecy.

Cretan Labdanum
Harvested from wild shrubs in Crete, labdanum was used in incense and perfume. Its dark, amber scent anchored rituals and invoked the earth’s ancient wisdom.

Grapevine Resin
Symbolic of Dionysus and ecstatic ritual, grapevine resin ties to Greek festivals, trance, and divine intoxication. Its earthy sweetness reflected both joy and chaos.

White Cycladic Musk
Inspired by the wind and sun-bleached stone of Cycladic islands, this imagined note blends clean, mineral brightness with serene calm. It represents peace, isolation, and the timeless Aegean.

Mountain Laurel
A romanticized scent of alpine groves said to resemble ancient Greece's mountain temples. Symbolizes strength, elevation, and sacred stillness.

  • Trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use. This prevents excessive flame and soot.

  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow candle to cool before relighting.

  • Keep wax pool free of debris. Avoid letting wick trimmings, matches, or dust accumulate in the melted wax.

  • Discontinue use when ½ inch of wax remains. Burning all the way down can overheat the container.

  • Extinguish with care. Use a snuffer or gently blow out. Avoid splashing hot wax.

  • Burn Time: Approximately 25–30 hours
